City of Moreno Valley Public Works Department

In partnership with the City of Moreno Valley, we have developed a Community Demonstration Garden as part of the City’s new Civic Center Park. This innovative project supports the City’s healthy MoVal Initiative that seeks to promote health and wellness opportunities for Moreno Valley residents of all ages. The new green space offers sustainable recreation opportunities while educating residents on a variety of sustainable gardening, landscaping techniques and irrigation technology.
The demonstration Garden is located on a 9,000+ square foot area behind the existing Moreno Valley Conference and Recreation Center. This location, adjacent to the Moreno Valley Civic Amphitheater is highly visible and accessible by foot, bike, car, and mass transit, with the nearest bus stop located within one block.
Entering the demonstration Garden, residents will find the Pollinator/Perennial Garden along with a Bird Bath Fountain and a Trellis Support for Berries/Grapes. Walking towards the north side, visitors will see Vertical Self-Contained Hydroponic Veggie Towers and Greenwall Planters. The design encourages visitors to “Grow your own” and use vertical space efficiently in their home gardens. This space is ideal for outdoor learning activities where everyone is welcome to learn about horticulture. Visitors can wander through the various styles of raised planter beds and see a variety of vegetables that are grown seasonally.
Community residents are also able to learn about composting, growing seasonably appropriate fruits and vegetables, making seed racks, and efficient irrigation practices. A custom designed tool storage shed, potting-bench, community bulletin board and propagation tables help support community residents who wish to test their “Green Thumbs”.
