The city of Montclair, California recently unveiled Sunset Park- winner of the 2025 APWA B.E.S.T. award- an all-inclusive community park. Architerra Design Group led the revitalization of Sunset Park, transforming it into a premier multi-generational destination. Our design prioritizes inclusive play, community wellness, and urban agriculture, creating a vibrant hub that serves the diverse needs of Montclair residents.

Key Project Highlights:

Inclusive Play Environments: Designed and implemented state-of-the-art, ADA-inclusive playgrounds at the North and South entries. Featuring 52 play components, these areas offer age-specific zones (2–5 and 5–12) and shaded "picnic pods" for family convenience.

Connectivity & Wellness: Integrated the inaugural segment of the San Antonio Creek Trail, a multi-modal path featuring four adult fitness stations. The project added over 1.25 miles of new, lighted walking tracks and a community amphitheater for expanded recreation programming.

Edible Landscape: Expanded the park’s signature Community Fruit Park, augmenting the existing grove with new apricot, avocado, lime, and pomegranate trees to celebrate the region’s agricultural heritage.

Infrastructure & Amenities: Enhanced site utility with new restroom facilities and strategically placed site furnishings, all developed through a collaborative public stakeholder process.
